Job Description

Role: Network/Infrastructure Project Manager

Location: california

Duration: 6+ months

Rate: $market All inclusive


  • Prior experience leading a Network Re-Architecture Project for a large, complex organization.
  • Prior experience leading a Network Hardware Refresh Project for a large, complex organization
  • Requires excellent knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Requires ability to assess campus, medical center or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
  • Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated effective writing skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques. The incumbent must have project management experience with large complex implementations, managing large cross-functional team and multi-year budgets.
  • Proven leadership ability. Effective problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress. Demonstrated highly advanced organization and project management skills. Demonstrated strong conceptual and planning skills to analyze projects of broad and diverse scope. Understands the cost impact of projects, project tracking tools and metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization.
  • Experience leading a team of technology professionals.
  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of computing and communications including hardware infrastructure, networking, software, operations and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate critical information across disciplines. Understands how projects relate to other business strategies and initiatives.
  • Is able to establish priorities, goals/objectives and timelines involving stakeholders from several institutions.
  • Demonstrates ability to delegate and oversee assignments to ensure successful and timely completion as well as to obtain the cooperation of others campus-wide and UCSF Health. Works in a collaborative manner to achieve results.
  • Requires conceptual and planning expertise. Has technical project management knowledge of several areas of IT…that is, has strong experience in IT infrastructure and application projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project and program management and broad knowledge of all IT areas sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction. Thorough knowledge of supervisory and leadership techniques in managing technical project staff.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization to include Board Members, senior executives, clinical leadership, and staff
  • Mastery of best practices in project management discipline and are able to operationalize these in a practical manner.
  • Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across multiple organizations across division, college or institutional boundaries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to large groups and senior management with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and mentor multiple levels of staff and management performing functions across multiple disciplines

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity to with equipment procurement management
  • Experience with cost accounting and forecasting
  • Ability to manage multiple network refresh activities at different stages of design and implementation
  • Background working onsite directly with engineers, contractors, and customers to review project scope


Education and Certifications

Bachelor"s degree in related area

5 years or more of experience directly managing IT projects and / or equivalent experience / training.

3 years or more experience in the healthcare industry

MBA or Advanced degree preferred.


Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification or experience, required

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) (preferred)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies advanced technical project management concepts with a full understanding of project management practices and IT policies and procedures to manage complex projects. Provides analysis for highly complex, project-related issues.
  • Implements the project management process involving diverse departmental or cross-functional teams. Initiates, designs and leads project proposals and reports.
  • Has overall project management responsibility. May lead a team of technical project management professionals.
  • Assembles and directs large project teams, develops detailed project plans and schedules and monitors budget and resources.
  • Directs project activities with the goal of completing the project on schedule and within budget constraints.
  • Interacts with senior internal and external personnel.
  • Oversees the project from initiation through delivery including system integration, project and campus, medical center  communications, interaction with vendors and managing risk.
